Publications on Demildex

Demildex joins the class of few organic Molecules.

DEMILDEX has the following remarkable qualities:

  • Only high quality ingredients go into DEMILDEX®, thus it’s of very high purity.

  • DEMILDEX® has low levels of Copper joiners (heavy metal impurities such as Lead) which averages 73 ppm Lead levels. N.B 250 ppm is the highest permissible WHO standard. This creates a product of superior quality for health and environment.

  • Contains limited undesirable Copper Chloride which induces phytotoxic effects on plants. This leads to burning of leaves or blemishes on the fruits. Extended oxygenation time during the DEMILDEX® production process results in minimal Copper Chloride levels (0.05% to 0.09%) – most brands test as high as 2%. Low Copper Chloride content in DEMILDEX® is important consideration for all crops, especially sensitive ones such as tomatoes, mangoes, avocados and berries.

  • Has better surface-area coverage on the leaves, fruits and stem for superior disease control. The smaller the particles, the greater the number of particles (or active sites) per unit area covered during spraying, hence the greater the fungicidal or anti-bacterial activity. DEMILDEX® is made of very fine particles (1.58 μm), in comparison with other brands which typically contain over 3μm.

  • DEMILDEX® sticks to target plant surfaces better. For fungicides, the tenacity coefficient is a measure of the product’s ability to stick to the target plant surface which gives a strong guide of its resistance to weathering from rainfall or overhead irrigation. The tenacity coefficient increases with decrease in particle size. This is where DEMILDEX® scores.

  • High suspensibility in the DEMILDEX® spray solution eliminates sedimentation-deposits being left in the tank. All molecules remain in solution.

  • Due to DEMILDEX® high solubility and remaining in solution,it causes no nozzle blockages when used as directed.

  • DEMILDEX® has been especially formulated as a wettable powder with excellent flow characteristics to minimize dusting which could lead to operator’s exposure.

Additional DEMILDEX® benefits:
  • It is stable and thus not broken down by sunlight or UV, it remains active on the plant surface.

  • Noncorrosive when used as directed.

  • Nonabrasive. A function of the smallness of the particle size and the nature of the product.

Uses of Demildex
  • Used for Downy Mildew control

  • Coffee leaf rust

  • Bacterial canker

  • Fruit spot

  • Bacterial rot (bulb onions, garlic, salad onion, leeks)

  • Black rot in cruciferous produce

  • Blight (potatoes, tomatoes)

  • Collar rot in temperate fruits

  • Fruit rot in tomatoes

Mode of Action

The fungicidal and anti-bacterial properties of DEMILDEX® is based on copper (the active ingredient) which is slowly dissolved in moisture (rain/irrigation) on the plant leaf in the presence of weak organic acids. As plant infections take place on the onset of rain, small amounts of copper are released on the plant surface to kill/inhibit germination of micro-organisms(Fungi and Bacteria).

DEMILDEX®  is a protective contact fungicide with anti-bacterial effect, which prevent infection on plants. Its mode of action is by interfering with the enzyme system of spores, mycelium and bacteria a process which is usually irreversible. This causes crop healing . DEMILDEX® forms a chemical barrier against fungal and bacterial attack. It’s not systemic, it does not penetrate the surface of vegetables or skin of fruits.

Dosage
The fine texture and high quality of DEMILDEX® means this product can be used at a lower rate (4.4 kg/ha for coffee) than the average Copper Oxychloride (5.5 kg/ha). The rate of application on fruits and vegetables is also comperative low compared to other copper oxychlorides. DEMILDEX® label rates are similar to the hydroxide products making DEMILDEX® superior on comparison levels.
